Jerry Stewart is a freelance sports writer based on the Monterey Peninsula, which is known as ‘The Golf Capital of the World’. He has been a correspondent for The Monterey County Herald since 1999 and in 2005 authored the book, ‘Pebble Beach: Golf and the Forgotten Men.’ The book chronicles the historical (and at times hysterical) moments of those who have been on the bag at one of golf’s greatest destinations, Pebble Beach Golf Links. In 2000, Jerry was a contributing writer for ‘The Major: 7 Days at Golf’s Greatest Championship’, which chronicled the historic 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Working in tandem with The Herald since 1999, Jerry has covered the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, the Walmart First Tee Open, the Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational and numerous other golf tournaments including the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur. In 2000, he was part of The Herald’s award-winning team that covered the centennial U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. In 2001, Jerry helped The Herald in earning Media of the Year honors from the Northern California PGA of America. He currently has a local golf notebook that runs weekly in The Herald.

Born in the former Fort Ord, Jerry is a graduate of Long Beach State University where he received a B.A. in Journalism. His website, www.jerrystewartmedia.com, is an extension of his golf coverage on the Monterey Peninsula.
